Rick Shiels was owed $1.4 million in LIV Golf bankruptcy filing

Rick Shiels was owed $1.4 million when LIV Golf filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States on September 8. Rick Shiels Media Ltd appeared in the petition as a creditor under a brand partnership agreement tied to Shiels's May 2025 ambassador deal with the golf tour.

The debt ranked Shiels 16th among LIV Golf's largest unsecured creditors, ahead of players Caleb Surratt and Joaquin Niemann. Shiels draws more than 3 million subscribers to his YouTube golf channel.

The filing disclosed at least $45 million owed to players including Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau. Bryson DeChambeau said earlier that he would consider leaning on his YouTube channel if LIV Golf folded after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund confirmed it would stop funding the tour once the 2026 season ends.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neill said the reorganized tour "will be built around a sustainable business model and deeper alignment." Shiels has not publicly addressed the bankruptcy or the reported debt.
