Google reported human voices boosted YouTube ad conversions 12%

The Ads Help Center post analyzed Demand Gen skippable ads and urged brands to show real faces.

Google published creative guidance for YouTube advertisers in its Ads Help Center, drawing on July 2026 conversion data from Demand Gen in-stream skippable ads in the United States.

Ads that included a human voice converted 12% higher on average, Google said. Text overlays or supers lifted conversions 3%, and showing the brand in the first five seconds added 4%.

The post also tells brands to strip non-functional buttons and arrows from image assets, which Google said compete with YouTube's standard call-to-action buttons and confuse viewers.

"Images with a visible human presence consistently outperform other assets," Google wrote. "YouTube runs on human connection, so feature faces or people actively engaging with your product wherever it fits your campaign."

Nielsen research cited in the post holds that creative quality accounts for 49% of campaign ROI, and Ekimetrics found that improving creatives can more than double ROI on YouTube.
