GothamChess joined BASILISK as Head of Chess

Levy Rozman will recruit players and build chess content for the science-focused esports group while his eight-million-subscriber YouTube channel keeps running.

Levy Rozman, known online as GothamChess, has joined BASILISK as Head of Chess, Dexerto reported Tuesday. He built one of YouTube's largest chess channels, with eight million subscribers and more than 5.9 billion views.

Rozman said he will not compete for the organization. He plans to recruit players, produce content with BASILISK's roster, and develop chess and STEM projects.

BASILISK's lineup already includes grandmasters Vincent Keymer and Anish Giri, StarCraft II champions Serral and Reynor, and fighting-game competitor Justin Wong.

Rozman said his goal is a BASILISK player winning the Esports World Cup, even if that means beating Magnus Carlsen. "Luckily, I don't actually have to play the games," he said. "I can just sort of root on the sidelines."

He also wants collaborations with STEM figures and strategic-game communities, plus youth programs to introduce children to science fields.

Rozman said the new job would not ease his own push for the grandmaster title. "There are fewer Grandmasters in the world than billionaires," he said.
