Immanuel drew seven years over $3.4M loan fraud
The Seoul Central District Court convicted the crime-exposé YouTuber of fraud and extortion tied to used-car financing.
Immanuel, a South Korean creator Korean media identify as Lim, drew a seven-year prison sentence from the Seoul Central District Court after convictions for fraud and extortion, Dexerto reported. The 34-year-old had built an audience of roughly 570,000 subscribers with videos that exposed alleged crimes and helped people who said they were victims of illegal auto loans.
Prosecutors said Lim exploited loopholes in the country's used-car financing system by using severely damaged vehicles with little real value to secure installment loans. Some cars had accident damage that was never reported to insurers, so the harm never appeared in vehicle history databases. He allegedly recruited acquaintances to pose as buyers of ordinary used cars and obtain credit in their names.
Between April and December 2023, prosecutors said the scheme produced about 3.06 billion won in loans, roughly $2.2 million. In August 2023 he was separately accused of borrowing another 1.63 billion won after claiming he would buy expensive imported used cars and resell them for profit, with investigators saying the money was earmarked for other purposes including business expenses. The court put total fraud damages at about 4.69 billion won, or around $3.4 million.
Lim was also accused of extorting 620 million won from a business partner on seven occasions by threatening to publish YouTube videos alleging embezzlement unless he was paid. Judges rejected his claim that he had played only a passive role in the fraud, finding investigation records showed he had led the scheme. The court cited mitigating factors including partial admissions, remorse, and partial repayments to victims.
Lim had been free on bail since October 2025 while the case moved forward. He was taken back into custody after the seven-year sentence was handed down. His last upload to YouTube arrived on August 4, 2026.
