YouTube added a background AI agent for creator back catalogs

Made on YouTube also added three-way video tests and dynamic thumbnail rotation in YouTube Studio.

YouTube expanded its AI-powered creator dashboard at Made on YouTube on September 23, 2026, adding a background agent that monitors a channel's back catalog and flags older uploads gaining new relevance through news cycles or trending topics. The agent can suggest new titles or thumbnails for those videos and generate sponsor pitches by pulling audience demographics from a creator's channel, according to Amjad Hanif, YouTube's vice president of creator products.

The update builds on tools YouTube first showed in 2025, including thumbnail A/B tests and a Studio chatbot for performance questions. The agent now drafts full thumbnails and titles from a freshly uploaded file, and creators can submit their own thumbnail art for automated feedback before publishing.

YouTube Studio also gained dynamic thumbnail testing, with up to three images per video distributed to different viewer segments to maximize watch time, and multi-cut experiments that send three structural variants of the same upload to small audiences. After seven days the highest-performing cut can become the default automatically unless the creator picks a winner first. Amjad Hanif said the platform blocks variants that are dramatically different from one another.

Creator use of AI has drawn backlash when audiences feel the work is not theirs. Hank Green faced pushback earlier in 2026 after he said he had relied on AI for video research. Amjad Hanif drew a line between efficiency tools and automation that replaces scripting or on-camera work.

YouTube declined to provide metrics showing the earlier AI studio features improved views or retention for adopters. Hanif said the tools mainly return hours to creators for creative work.
