YouTube added TV co-viewership estimates to creator analytics
Views (Co-Viewed) stays private inside YouTube Analytics and is meant for brand pitches.
YouTube added Views (Co-Viewed) to creator analytics, a metric that estimates how many people watched together on a single TV screen.
Rene Ritchie, YouTube's Creator Liaison, said in a Creator Insider video that until now each TV playback counted as one view. Views (Co-Viewed) estimates the total number of people watching on TVs, so a family of three might register as three viewers.
Ritchie said viewers watch an average of over 1 billion hours of YouTube on TV screens every day, often in groups with friends and family.
YouTube describes the figures as estimates. YouTube has not publicly detailed how it decides when to count multiple viewers on one device.
Views (Co-Viewed) does not appear on public video pages. Creators see it only inside YouTube Analytics.
Ritchie said co-views are a platform-backed metric creators can use when negotiating brand deals to represent the full impact and value of content on TV.
