YouTube announced Shorts algorithm changes limiting re-upload reach

Clip-heavy accounts that add little new editing should lose Shorts feed placement under the update.

YouTube said it is updating Shorts recommendation systems to further prioritize original content and reduce the reach of content re-uploaded from other creators, in a post on its creator blog.

Channels that primarily aggregate pre-existing footage without significant changes will likely see less distribution within the Shorts feed, YouTube wrote.

The platform did not describe the signals it will use. It framed the shift as narrow: re-uploads are not barred platform-wide, and uploads can still spread when they add what YouTube called real value through original commentary, unique edits or storytelling.

YouTube did not say whether Shorts sliced from a creator's own long-form uploads would be treated like third-party clippers.
