YouTube partnered with AliExpress on global Shopping affiliates
The deal opens commission tagging in the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Germany after a South Korea pilot that went live in March.
YouTube and AliExpress announced a global affiliate pact on October 20 that folds the Alibaba marketplace into YouTube Shopping, giving eligible creators in four Western markets new products to tag and new commission paths across long-form uploads, Shorts, and livestreams.
AliExpress had already tested the integration in South Korea, where the partnership went live in March, before YouTube widened the retailer to creators in the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Under the arrangement, AliExpress will list more goods inside YouTube and pay commissions on qualifying sales in those countries. Creators who meet YouTube's channel and shopping affiliate rules can browse AliExpress inventory in YouTube Studio and attach shoppable tags at timestamps or in Shorts and live moments.
"Content and commerce are converging globally, and this partnership connects AliExpress's affiliate ecosystem with YouTube's creator ecosystem," Eric Zhang, vice president of AliExpress, said in a statement.
YouTube has struck similar shopping affiliate deals with retailers including Amazon and Rakuten as it builds out tagged commerce against TikTok Shop. AliExpress said a slice of its Brand+ catalog, pitched as branded international and local goods, will anchor many of the listings creators can pick.
The partners plan further expansion in phases as YouTube's Shopping Affiliate Program rolls into additional markets.
