YouTube Premium rose in Europe and Asia

Google emailed subscribers in August about increases of up to 17 percent, months after a U.S. hike.

YouTube Premium climbed in price across parts of Europe and Asia in August, Dexerto reported, as Google began emailing subscribers about new rates.

Individual plans in some European markets rose from €13.99 to €15.99 per month, 9to5Google reported. Finnish customers saw increases from €14.99 to €16.99, and Romanian memberships moved from RON 29 to RON 32.

In Singapore, individual memberships now cost S$15.98, up from S$13.98. Family plans increased from S$27.98 to S$31.98. New subscribers there already pay the higher prices, and existing members will see the new rate on their first billing cycle at least 30 days after the announcement.

YouTube said the hike would "allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube."

For at least some European Union customers, the increase will not apply automatically. The Next Web reported that one Romanian subscriber received a notice requiring acceptance of the new price by October 10. Without action, the subscription would end before the new rate takes effect on October 12.

The global rollout follows a U.S. price increase months earlier. Individual plans there rose from $13.99 to $15.99, family memberships from $22.99 to $26.99, and Premium Lite from $7.99 to $8.99.
